Eligibility Criteria — SINP Recruitment 2026

Educational Qualification

Qualifications differ sharply across the eight post groups, and three of them — Technician ‘B’, Work Assistant ‘A’ and Security Guard ‘A’, together 37 of the 62 vacancies — also demand hands-on work experience. Listed below are the essential requirements — these are compulsory, not preferences.

  • Scientist ‘C’: M.Sc. in Physics, Applied Physics, Optics, Photonics or Electronics from a recognised university, with the exact subject depending on the post code. There is no engineering-degree route for this post.
  • Scientific Assistant ‘B’: A Diploma in the branch notified for that post code — Computer Software Technology, Computer Science & Technology, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Electrical Power System, Mechanical Engineering, or Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration / HVAC Engineering.
  • Technician ‘B’: HSC or SSC pass, plus an ITI certificate of not less than one year in the relevant trade, plus three years of experience in that field. Notified trades include Computer Hardware and Network Maintenance, Welding, Draughtsmanship (Civil), Carpentry, Electrician or Electrician & Wireman, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Electronics Mechanic, Instrument Mechanic, Mechanic (Embedded Systems and PLC), and Computer Operation and Programming Assistant.
  • Lower Division Clerk: Graduate from a recognised university with minimum 50% marks. A typing speed of 35 words per minute and a certified computer course are listed as desirable, not essential.
  • Work Assistant ‘A’: SSC or equivalent, plus a minimum of one year’s experience in the relevant field.
  • Security Guard ‘A’: SSC or equivalent, physical fitness as per Government of India norms, and two years of relevant experience. Ex-servicemen with at least 15 years of service may produce an equivalent certificate from the Armed Forces.
  • Halwai-cum-Cook: 10th class pass with a certificate or diploma in Catering. Two years’ experience in a government department or undertaking is preferred.
  • Assistant Administrative Officer-I: A deputation post — for officers holding an analogous post in DAE or aided institutions, or officers with at least three years’ regular service in Pay Level 6.

Two restrictions worth noting before you apply: 4 of the 8 Security Guard ‘A’ posts are reserved for Ex-Servicemen, and the experience requirements above are strict. Candidates with an ITI certificate plus three years on the job should look at Technician ‘B’, while diploma holders are the right fit for Scientific Assistant ‘B’.

Age Limit

Age is calculated as on 15 September 2026, the closing date. The notification does not prescribe a minimum age.

Post NameMaximum Age
Scientist ‘C’33 years
Scientific Assistant ‘B’30 years
Lower Division Clerk, Security Guard ‘A’, Work Assistant ‘A’27 years
Technician ‘B’25 years
Halwai-cum-Cook25 years
Assistant Administrative Officer-IAs per GoI deputation norms

🎂 Not sure if you meet the age criteria? Use our free Age Calculator for Government Exams to find your exact age on the cut-off date and instantly check your eligibility — including SC / ST / OBC / PwBD age relaxation. →

Age relaxation is available as follows:

CategoryRelaxation
SC and ST5 years
OBC3 years
PwBD (Unreserved)10 years
PwBD (OBC)13 years
PwBD (SC and ST)15 years
Ex-Servicemen3 years after deducting military service
Departmental candidates (Group A and B posts)5 years

For the Group C posts — that is Lower Division Clerk, Technician ‘B’, Security Guard ‘A’, Work Assistant ‘A’ and Halwai-cum-Cook, which together account for 48 of the 62 vacancies — the notification allows these additional upper age limits:

CategoryUpper Age Limit
Central Govt civilian employees with 3+ years’ service40 years
Same, belonging to SC or ST45 years
Widows, divorced women and women judicially separated and not remarried35 years
Same, belonging to SC or ST40 years

That widow and divorced-women relaxation is easy to miss and genuinely useful — if you are 31 and thought the 27-year limit ruled you out of the clerk and technician posts, read that row again.

What is the Salary for SINP Recruitment 2026 Posts?

The notification specifies the 7th Pay Commission Pay Level for every post but does not print the basic pay or gross salary in rupees. We are stating exactly what the notification says rather than filling in numbers of our own.

  • Scientist ‘C’: Level 10
  • Assistant Administrative Officer-I: Level 7
  • Scientific Assistant ‘B’: Level 6
  • Technician ‘B’ and Halwai-cum-Cook: Level 3
  • Lower Division Clerk: Level 2
  • Security Guard ‘A’ and Work Assistant ‘A’: Level 1

The notification states that selected candidates will be entitled to draw Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance and other allowances as per the rules of the Institute, over and above the pay level shown.

Note that SINP is a grant-in-aid autonomous institution under the Department of Atomic Energy, so its service conditions follow the Institute’s own rules rather than those of a central government department.

What is the Selection Process for SINP Recruitment 2026?

The selection method is different for almost every post, and this is where many candidates get confused. Read the stage that applies to your post.

Written Test and Trade Test Posts

For Scientific Assistant ‘B’ and Technician ‘B’, there is a qualifying written test followed by a trade test. Note this carefully: the final merit is prepared only from the trade test — the written test just decides who reaches that stage.

Written Test and Skill Test Posts

Lower Division Clerk candidates take a written examination followed by a qualifying typing skill test, with merit based on the written exam. Halwai-cum-Cook applicants face a qualifying written test and then a cooking skill test, with merit decided by the skill test.

Physical and Written Test Posts

Security Guard ‘A’ candidates must first clear a qualifying Physical Fitness Test, after which they appear for the written examination — the final merit list is prepared from the written test marks only. Work Assistant ‘A’ selection is through an objective multiple choice written test only.

Interview-Based Posts

Scientist ‘C’ selection is by interview, with an optional qualifying written test. Assistant Administrative Officer-I involves a written examination along with perusal of the APAR records.

The notification does not publish an exam pattern, syllabus or qualifying marks for any of these stages.

How to Apply Online for SINP Recruitment 2026
