Eligibility Criteria — SSC CHTE 2026
Educational Qualification (as on 01 August 2026)
For Codes A, B and C (Junior Translator / JTO / JHT), candidates must hold a Master’s Degree from a recognised university under any one of these combinations:
- Master’s in Hindi with English as compulsory / elective subject or medium
- Master’s in English with Hindi as compulsory / elective subject or medium
- Master’s in any other subject with Hindi and English as compulsory / elective subjects or medium combinations
AND a recognised Diploma / Certificate course in Translation from Hindi to English & vice versa OR 2 years of translation experience in a Central / State Government office.
For Code D (Senior Hindi Translator / ST / STO), the educational requirement is the same but translation experience must be 3 years (in place of 2).

Selection is based on a two-paper scheme followed by document verification:
- Paper-I (Computer Based Examination — Objective MCQ): Shortlisting stage, conducted tentatively in August – September 2026. Negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. Marks are normalised if exam runs in multiple shifts.
