Eligibility Criteria — AAI NR Apprentice 2026

Two conditions apply to every applicant regardless of category, so read them before you register.

Educational Qualification

  • Graduate Apprentice: Full-time regular four-year Degree in Engineering in the listed streams, recognised by AICTE, Government of India. Architecture and BCA / B.Com appear as streams in the vacancy table, but the notification prints only the four-year Degree or three-year Diploma in Engineering wording for the qualification clause.
  • Technical (Diploma) Apprentice: Full-time regular three-year Diploma in Engineering in the listed streams, recognised by AICTE, Government of India.
  • Trade (ITI) Apprentice: ITI / NCVT certificate in the notified trades from an institution recognised by AICTE, Government of India.

Two eligibility filters that reject a lot of applicants every year: candidates must have passed their degree or diploma in 2024 or after 2024, and only Indian nationals who are domiciles of Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Leh Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand are eligible.

Under the Apprentices Act, 1961, candidates who have already completed an apprenticeship, terminated one midway, or are currently pursuing one elsewhere at the same qualification level are not eligible. The same applies if you already hold one year or more of apprenticeship training or job experience after acquiring your essential qualification. Engineering graduates may also want to check the wider list of engineering government jobs.

What is the Salary and Stipend for AAI NR Apprentice 2026?

Apprentices receive a monthly stipend rather than a pay scale, and the notification prints the exact figures along with how the amount is shared between AAI and the Government.

  • Graduate (Degree) Apprentices₹15,000 per month (AAI share ₹8,850 plus Government share ₹6,150 through DBT)
  • Technical (Diploma) Apprentices₹12,000 per month (AAI share ₹6,550 plus Government share ₹5,450 through DBT)
  • Trade (ITI) Apprentices₹9,600 per month

The Government share of the stipend reaches you directly through Direct Benefit Transfer, so make sure your bank account details on the NATS or Apprenticeship India portal are accurate and Aadhaar-seeded from day one.

Be clear about one thing before you apply: an apprenticeship is a training engagement, not employment. The notification states plainly that AAI has no obligation to offer regular employment after the training period, and no TA or DA is paid for attending the interview. What you do get is a year of paid, structured exposure inside a major central organisation.

What is the Selection Process for AAI NR Apprentice 2026?

The notification prescribes no written examination — selection is purely merit-based on your qualifying examination marks.

  1. Provisional selection on the basis of the percentage of marks obtained in the qualifying examination, with CGPA converted into percentage as per the norms of the concerned Board or University.
  2. Tie-breaker — where two candidates have equal percentage, date of birth is considered first, and then the date of passing.
  3. Interview / Document Verification at the establishment office, with intimation sent only through registered email IDs.
  4. Document check — original documents must be produced along with self-attested and soft copies.
  5. Medical fitness — a medical certificate from a Government Medical Officer or a Medical Officer of a Government undertaking must be submitted at the time of joining.
  6. Final selection on merit, after which the apprenticeship engagement letter is issued.

Since everything hinges on your marksheet percentage, make sure the marks you enter on the portal match your certificate exactly. All communication happens by email only, so use an address you check daily and keep it active for the whole process.

Training Duration

The apprenticeship runs for 12 months from the commencement of the contract. After 12 months the apprenticeship contract automatically ceases. Selected apprentices must sign and accept the contract of apprenticeship training on the NATS or NAPS portal immediately after joining AAI.
