What is the Selection Process for Bihar TRE 4.0 2026?
There are two exams, a shortlisting step in between, and certificate verification at the end. Our exam syllabus and preparation guides will help you plan.
| Stage | What Happens | Key Detail |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Preliminary Exam | Screening test only — General Studies, objective, 150 questions, 150 marks, 2 hours | One-third negative marking per wrong answer. Each question has five options, and if you do not want to answer, marking option E is compulsory — leave it fully blank and one-third mark is still cut |
| 2. Shortlisting for Main | 2.5 times up to 10 times the notified vacancies, on Preliminary marks plus weightage | Only guest teachers holding the Higher Secondary teacher qualification get 5 marks for each year of service, up to a maximum of 25 marks. It is added only after you clear the minimum qualifying marks, needs the District Education Officer’s experience certificate and appointment letter, and is subject to the pending court appeal |
| 3. Main Examination | Objective, four papers, one per level — each 150 questions, 150 marks, 2 hours 30 minutes | Paper 1 (Class 1 to 5): qualifying Language 30 questions plus General Studies 120. Papers 2, 3 and 4: qualifying Language 30, General Studies 40 and your subject 80. At least 30 per cent in the qualifying Language part is compulsory. One-third negative marking, the compulsory option-E rule and the qualifying marks table below apply to the Main Exam too. A separate application must be filed for the Main Exam, and a mismatch with the Prelim form can bar you from sitting it |
| 4. Verification of Certificates | Education and training qualifications, the Teacher Eligibility Test certificate, experience and other papers checked before the appointment letter is issued | Verification uses Aadhaar-linked mobile OTP. A No Objection Certificate is needed if you already serve under the Central, Bihar or any other State Government. A forged or wrong certificate means the appointment is cancelled, the salary is recovered under the Bihar and Orissa Public Demand Recovery Act 1914, and legal action follows |
| No Interview | The notification prescribes no interview stage — selection is on the written exams alone | There is also no re-evaluation and no supplementary result |
Qualifying marks differ by category, and one of them carries a condition.
| Category | Qualifying Marks — Prelim and Main |
|---|---|
| General | 40% |
| BC | 36.5% |
| EBC | 34% |
| SC, ST, Women and PwD | 32% — only for original residents of Bihar |
The Preliminary syllabus covers General Science, national and international current events, History of India and Bihar, General Geography and the geography of Bihar, Indian Polity and Economy, changes in Bihar’s economy after Independence, the National Movement with Bihar’s role in it, and general mental ability.
