What is the Selection Process for BPSSC PSI 2026?

Selection is done in three stages. You must clear each stage to move to the next. The final merit list is prepared only on the basis of the Main written examination marks.

Stage 1: Preliminary Examination

  1. The Preliminary exam is objective (MCQ) type with one paper of 200 marks.
  2. It has 100 questions to be solved in 2 hours, and 2 marks are given for each correct answer.
  3. Questions cover English, General Knowledge, Hindi language, Reasoning and Current Affairs.
  4. Candidates must score at least 30% to qualify. Successful candidates up to 10 times the number of vacancies (category-wise) are called for the Main exam. The Preliminary exam is only a screening test — its marks are not counted in the final merit.

Stage 2: Main Examination

The Main exam has two papers. You must score at least 30% in both papers.

Paper 1 is objective type — 200 questions in 180 minutes (3 hours), 1 mark per correct answer, with a negative marking of 0.25 mark for each wrong answer.

Paper 2 is a descriptive (written) paper of 50 marks in 1 hour: Hindi Essay (15), English Essay (15), English Precis (10) and Hindi-to-English Translation (10). After the Main exam, candidates up to 3 times the vacancies (category-wise merit) are called for the Physical Efficiency Test.

Stage 3: Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

In this final stage, your height, chest and weight are measured against the fixed standards. There are no marks for the physical test — it is only pass or fail. Aspirants preparing for police and other government jobs should start their physical fitness practice early. Selected candidates then go through a medical examination before appointment.
