CAPF Medical Officer Recruitment 2026: 282 Doctor Posts in BSF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB and Assam Rifles

The Medical Officer Selection Board under the Ministry of Home Affairs has opened 282 Group A combatised posts for doctors across the Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles. Recruitment is run by ITBP on behalf of all five forces, and it is one of the few routes into a Defence and paramilitary career where final merit is decided on a single 200-mark interview. The application window closes on 8 September 2026 at 11:59 PM, which leaves very little room to gather the certificates you have to produce in original.

Three separate grades are on offer and they are not interchangeable. Read the row for your own grade before you start: the age ceiling drops from 50 to 30 across the three, one grade exists in ITBP alone, and two advertised specialities carry no seat at all this cycle. Getting that wrong costs you the fee and the deadline.

CAPF Medical Officer Vacancy 2026: How Many Posts in BSF, CRPF, ITBP and SSB?

The reservation split is different for every grade, so read your own row rather than the total.

PostCategory-wise VacanciesTotal
Super Specialist MO (Second-in-Command)UR 4 / OBC 1 / SC 0 / ST 0 / EWS 05
Specialist MO (Deputy Commandant)UR 55 / SC 27 / ST 9 / OBC 51 / EWS 20162
Medical Officer (Assistant Commandant)UR 32 / SC 23 / ST 18 / OBC 32 / EWS 10 — includes the 10% Ex-Servicemen quota, which exists in this grade only115

The five Super Specialist posts carry no SC, ST or EWS seat at all, and all five sit in ITBP. If you hold a DM or M.Ch. and expected to apply against a reserved seat in that grade, there is none this cycle.

ForceVacancies by PostTotal
BSFSpecialist 46 (no ST seat) / Medical Officer 4793
CRPFSpecialist 86 / Medical Officer 591
SSBSpecialist 17 (all UR — no SC, ST, OBC or EWS seat) / Medical Officer 1835
ITBPSuper Specialist 5 / Specialist 8 (no ST seat) / Medical Officer 3750

The 162 Specialist posts are split by speciality, and two of the nine listed specialities are advertised with a nil figure.

PaediatricsNil in every force0
PsychiatristNil in every force0

Paediatrics and Psychiatry appear in the speciality table but carry zero seats. Both are printed in the notification, so a paediatrician or psychiatrist reading the speciality list alone could easily assume a post exists. There is none. The Super Specialist grade is one seat each in Neurology, Neurosurgery, Gastroenterology, Cardiology and Nephrology.

Where the seats sit should shape your preference order. CRPF holds more than half the Specialist posts but just five Medical Officer posts, while BSF and ITBP carry the bulk of the MBBS-level intake. Since your preference across the five forces is final once submitted, spend a few minutes matching your grade against that distribution instead of ranking the forces by reputation.

What are the MBBS and PG Eligibility Criteria for CAPF Medical Officer 2026?

PostRequirement
Super Specialist MOMBBS or equivalent from a recognised university or institution, State Medical Register enrolment, completed rotating internship, a PG Degree or Diploma in the related speciality mentioned in Section ‘A’ or Section ‘B’ of Schedule-I to the IMC Act, plus DM or M.Ch. or equivalent with 3 years’ experience in the super-speciality after the first PG degree
Specialist MOA recognised Allopathic medical qualification (other than a licentiate qualification), completed rotating internship, plus a PG Degree or Diploma in the concerned speciality mentioned in Section ‘A’ or Section ‘B’ of Schedule-I, or equivalent, with 1.5 years’ experience after a PG Degree or 2.5 years’ after a PG Diploma
Medical OfficerA recognised Allopathic medical qualification of the first or second schedule or Part-II of the third schedule (other than a licentiate qualification), i.e. MBBS or equivalent, plus completion of the compulsory rotating internship

Two lines here are worth a second read. First, Senior Residency counts towards the three-year super-speciality experience, which brings the Super Specialist grade within reach far earlier than most candidates assume. Second, candidates still undergoing their rotating internship may apply and attend the interview, provided the internship is satisfactorily completed before appointment — so a final-year intern is not shut out of the 115 Medical Officer posts. Permanent registration with MCI, NMC or a State Medical Council is required before appointment for every grade. Holders of a Part-II Third Schedule qualification must additionally satisfy sub-section (3) of Section 13 of the IMC Act.

Medical OfficerLevel 10Rs 56,100 – 1,77,500

Non-Practicing Allowance, DA, HRA and Transport Allowance are payable on top, but no Post Graduate allowance is admissible. The real draw is the Dynamic Assured Career Progression scheme, which gives time-scale promotion without waiting for a vacancy right up to Level 14 (Rs 1,44,200 – 2,18,200). Pension is under the New Pension Scheme applicable to entrants from 1 January 2004.

What is the Application Fee for CAPF Medical Officer 2026?

CategoryFee
Male candidates – General, OBC, EWSRs 400
SC and STExempted
Ex-ServicemenExempted
All female candidates, every categoryExempted

Payment is accepted only through the online gateway on the ITBP recruitment portal, and the fee is not refunded under any circumstances. The exemption is unusually wide: every woman applying is exempt regardless of category, as is every SC, ST and Ex-Servicemen candidate, so a large share of applicants pay nothing at all.

What is the Selection Process for CAPF Medical Officer 2026?

StageDetail
DocumentationBring the printed admit card, every listed original and one set of self-attested copies; without them you may not be let into the interview centre
Interview200 marks; minimum 40% (80 marks), the same bar for every category
Physical Standard TestHeight, chest and weight, checked the same day or the day after the interview
Medical Examination TestConducted by a CAPF and AR medical board; Review Medical Examination available to those declared unfit

Final merit is prepared solely on the aggregate interview marks. Separate merit lists are compiled for SC, ST, OBC (NCL) and EWS candidates. Everything after the interview is a fitness gate rather than a scoring stage, which makes the interview the entire competition — prepare for it as such, and check the exam and interview preparation guides on GovtJobsAlert.in if you have been out of the interview habit since your PG.

What are the Physical and Medical Standards for CAPF Medical Officer 2026?

StandardRequirement
Height – Male157.5 cms
Height – Female142 cms
Height relaxation2 cms for Gorkhas, Garhwalis, Kumaonis, Dogras, Marathas and candidates from the North-Eastern states, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, the Kashmir region of UT J&K and UT Ladakh; 3 cms for Scheduled Tribes. Either relaxation needs an Annexure-IV certificate from a District Magistrate, SDM or Tehsildar, produced whenever the Recruitment Board asks for it
Chest – Male only77 cms unexpanded, 82 cms expanded
WeightProportionate to height and age per the MHA chart
Distant vision6/6 or 6/9 better eye, 6/12 or 6/9 worse eye
Near visionN6 better eye, N9 worse eye; age-wise presbyopic relaxation of +1 DS up to 40 years, +2 DS up to 50 years and +3 DS from 51 years
RefractionHypermetropia +3.50 DS, Myopia -4.5 DS, including astigmatism +/-1.50 DS
Colour visionCP-III on Ishihara plates
Eye surgeryLasik permitted only if done at age 20-35, at least 6 months earlier, with axial length 21-26 mm, corneal thickness 425 micron, pre-Lasik error -6 D and a normal retina
TattoosOnly a religious symbol, figure or a name, on the inner aspect of the left forearm or the dorsum of the hands, smaller than a quarter of that part (elbow or hand)
Removed tattooIf removed before the recruitment process and substantially faded it counts as a scar, not a tattoo; you may complete the whole process with the Presiding Officer’s approval and the scar is reviewed at the detailed medical examination
OtherNo knock-knees, flat foot or squint

These standards catch more doctors than the eligibility rules do: a clinician who has never faced a uniformed medical board rarely thinks to check colour perception or refraction beforehand. Get your vision tested now, not at the centre. A candidate declared unfit may give written consent within 24 hours for a Review Medical Examination, usually held the next day, so plan for more than one day away from home.

If you hold a recognised Allopathic degree and are within the age ceiling for your grade, this is worth the application: 282 Group A posts decided on interview merit, and a career progression scheme that carries you to Level 14 without a vacancy-linked promotion queue. Check the speciality table once more before you pay, confirm your grade’s age limit against 8 September 2026, and submit several days early rather than on the closing evening — government portals slow to a crawl in the last forty-eight hours, and a payment that fails then takes the application with it. More central government job notifications are tracked daily on GovtJobsAlert.in.
