Candidates with the above qualifications but no experience can still apply, for PAT-I only. Preferred skills, such as embedded systems, PCB design or IC design tools, are listed as desirable or preferable, not compulsory.
Which post suits you? Fresh B.Tech or M.Sc graduates in electronics should look at PAT-I, which accepts candidates without experience. Those with 2 to 3 years of R&D experience can aim at PAT-II or Senior PAT, and science PhD or M.E./M.Tech holders should look at the Project Scientist posts, which carry the highest pay. A graduate who has cleared NET or GATE should read the JRF row.
Who Cannot Apply
- Anyone who has already served CSIR-CEERI or any other CSIR lab as project staff (PAT-I, PAT-II, Senior PAT, JRF, SRF, Project Assistant-I or II) for a total of 6 years or more is not eligible. Those with less service get tenure only up to the remaining period of six years.
- AcSIR Engineering/IDDP Ph.D. students with a fellowship are not eligible. Those without a fellowship can apply only if their research area matches the project, with the supervisor’s and PI’s permission and the Director’s approval uploaded on the portal.

For PAT-I the vacancy table for post 3414 lists ₹25,000, while the table for post 3418 lists “₹31,000 or ₹25,000”. The footnote explains the higher figure is for scholars who qualified through NET, GATE or a national-level exam. Keep that certificate ready.
