How Many Vacancies are there in CSIR IIIM Recruitment 2026?
Every position code has exactly one vacancy. The notification gives no category-wise split, and it says the number of positions may change with project needs at the time of the interview.
Since every code has a single seat, choose the code where your degree fits most closely. The desirable experience listed against each code is not compulsory, but it can help you stand out when the committee compares candidates face to face. Do not apply under a code just because the pay or title sounds better, because the essential subject is checked.
| Position Code | Post | Vacancies |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | Project Associate-I | 1 |
| 02 | Project Associate-I | 1 |
| 03 | Project Associate-I | 1 |

What is the Eligibility for CSIR IIIM Recruitment 2026?
Educational Qualification
Do not merge the six Project Associate-I posts. Subject lists differ by code and several overlap, so check every code your degree matches. The desirable column is a preference, not a bar.
| Code and Post | Essential Qualification | Desirable |
|---|---|---|
| 01 Project Associate-I | M.Sc. in Microbiology, Biotechnology or Biochemistry, or B.Tech in Biochemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Biotechnology or Fermentation Technology | Experience in microbial biotechnology, fermentation technology or bioprocess development |
| 02 Project Associate-I | M.Sc. in Microbiology or Biotechnology | Experience in basic microbiology and/or basic molecular biology techniques |
| 03 Project Associate-I | M.Sc. in Chemistry or Chemical Sciences from a recognised university | R&D experience in organic or medicinal chemistry |
| 04 Project Associate-I | M.Sc. Botany or Biotechnology with practical experience in plant biochemical or physiological functioning | R&D experience in plant systems using modern biotechnological methods |
| 05 Project Associate-I | M.Sc. in Floriculture and Landscaping | Experience in cultivation and propagation of floricultural crops |
| 06 Project Associate-I | M.Sc. in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or Chemical Sciences from a recognised university | Experience in analytical chemistry and quality control |
| 07 Project Scientist-III | Doctoral degree in Pharmacology or Biotechnology, with at least 7 years of R&D experience | Research facility set-up, preclinical development and validation studies, publications, patents, funded projects, safety pharmacology and PK-PD |
| 08 Project Assistant-II | B.Sc. with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as subjects | Lab work experience, MS Office skills, data management, documentation and report preparation |
For position 04, the practical experience in plant biochemical or physiological functioning is part of the essential qualification. The notification does not say how many years. If you are a graduate looking for government jobs, position 08 is the one open to B.Sc. holders. Position 01 also accepts a B.Tech degree, so engineering graduates in the listed branches can try it.
All candidates must meet the essential qualification and other conditions as on the date of interview.
Age Limit
| Posts | Maximum Age |
|---|---|
| Position 01 to 06 and 08 | 35 years |
| Position 07 (Project Scientist-III) | 45 years |
🎂 Not sure if you meet the age criteria? Use our free Age Calculator for Government Exams to find your exact age on the cut-off date and instantly check your eligibility — including any age relaxation you qualify for. →
Age is counted as on the date of interview. The notification gives relaxation as per Government of India rules but does not list category-wise years, and it states no minimum age. The Hindi text of the notice mentions the last date of form filling for the qualification cut-off, but the notice itself says the English version is final, so use the interview date.
What is the Salary for CSIR IIIM Project Posts 2026?
Pay is a monthly emolument. For Project Associate-I, the amount depends on whether you have cleared a national-level test.
| Post | Monthly Pay | Who Gets It |
|---|---|---|
| Project Associate-I (codes 01 to 06) | Rs 31,000 + HRA | Qualified CSIR-UGC, ICAR or ICMR NET (including Lecturership/Assistant Professorship) or GATE, or a national-level exam by DBT, DST or equivalent bodies |
| Project Associate-I (codes 01 to 06) | Rs 25,000 + HRA | All other candidates |
| Project Scientist-III (code 07) | Rs 78,000 + HRA | As per post |
| Project Assistant-II (code 08) | Rs 20,000 + HRA | As per post |
HRA is paid only if institutional accommodation is not availed or provided. No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview, so plan your travel cost.
For a Project Associate-I, clearing NET or GATE makes a real difference of Rs 6,000 a month between the two pay bands. If you hold a qualifying result, mention it in the NET qualified line of Annexure-I and carry the proof. If you have not cleared any such test, you are still eligible and are paid in the other band.
Tenure of the Project Posts
These posts are purely temporary and run along with the project, which is sanctioned up to 31 March 2027. It may be extended if the project continues and your work is satisfactory. Total tenure can never exceed six years, counting all CSIR labs together.

Revise the basics of your subject, such as microbiology, chemistry or plant science, according to the code you chose.
