What is the Eligibility for IIT Delhi Recruitment 2026?
Every post needs minimum 75% marks in the stated degrees. The field must be Thermal, Mechanical, Energy or Chemical, except for the M.Sc option, which is open to Chemistry, Chemical or Physics. Check your own row, and note that the degree discipline matters as much as the marks. A strong percentage in an unrelated branch will not help you here.
| Post | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Research Associate | Doctorate (Thermal, Mechanical, Energy or Chemical) with minimum 75% marks at UG/PG level. Preferably PhD work experience in Chemical Kinetics, Combustion Simulation and related areas |
| JRF/SRF | M.Tech (Thermal, Mechanical, Energy or Chemical) with minimum 75% marks at B.Tech and M.Tech level, with NET/GATE. Preferably some experience in Chemical Kinetics, Combustion Simulation and related areas |
| Junior Project Assistant (Tech.) | B.Tech/Diploma (Thermal, Mechanical, Energy or Chemical) or M.Sc (Chemistry/Chemical/Physics) with minimum 75% marks. Preferably some experience in project and R&D related work |
The NET/GATE condition for JRF/SRF is strict. The notification says NET/GATE qualified candidates only. The one exception is for graduates of Centrally Funded Technical Institutes (CFTIs) with a CGPA above 8.00 (80% aggregate marks), for whom the requirement may be relaxed. “May be relaxed” means it is not a right, so do not count on it.
SC/ST candidates may be given a 5% relaxation in marks, again on a “may be granted” basis. The notification states no age limit and no application fee. If you hold an M.Tech or B.Tech degree, a diploma or a postgraduate degree in the right field, you can match yourself to one of these posts.
What is the Salary for IIT Delhi Research Associate, JRF/SRF and JPA 2026?
| Post | Pay per Month |
|---|---|
| Research Associate | ₹58,000 (consolidated) |
| JRF/SRF | ₹37,000 / ₹42,000 (+HRA @30%) |
| Junior Project Assistant (Tech.) | ₹30,000 (consolidated) |
The notification prints the JRF/SRF figure as “37,000 / 42,000 pm (+HRA @30%)” and does not say which amount belongs to which level, so confirm this with the Principal Investigator before you rely on it. Only the JRF/SRF line mentions HRA at 30%. The other two are described as consolidated pay.
If a retired or superannuated government employee is selected, the salary will be fixed as per prevailing IRD norms, not the figures above.
What Work Will You Do in the IIT Delhi Project 2026?
The project studies why foam forms in the flue gas desulfurization (FGD) unit when biomass is co-fired in thermal power plants. The Government of India has mandated 7% biomass mixing for co-firing, but pump tripping, ash handling and unstable combustion have held back use of agro-waste. The work includes:
- collecting torrefied and non-torrefied biomass samples and characterising them (proximate, ultimate, FTIR, XRD and ICP-MS)
- collecting foam samples from FGD units while monitoring pH, oxygen, flue gas composition, temperature and blending ratio
- optimising the biomass blending ratio, lime quality and injection rate in the lab
- developing corrective measures, and studying how to reduce the extra moisture in gypsum caused by foaming
You must visit NCR-based thermal power plants regularly and work closely with IIT Delhi and NTPC plants there. Modelling and optimisation can be done through CFD simulation. Fellows will be encouraged to register for a PhD under Institute rules, and if admitted, the PhD topic will relate only to this project.
