IOCL Apprentice 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility depends on the trade you choose. There are 11 trade codes in total, and you may apply for only one trade. If you are a Diploma holder looking for government jobs, the Technician Apprentice trades are made for you.
Educational Qualification (Trade-Wise)
- Code 101 — Trade Apprentice, Attendant Operator (Chemical Plant): B.Sc with PCM or Industrial Chemistry (12 months)
- Code 102 — Trade Apprentice (Fitter): Matric (10th) plus ITI Fitter (2-year) trade (12 months)
- Code 103 — Trade Apprentice (Boiler): B.Sc with PCM or Industrial Chemistry (24 months; not offered at Paradip)
- Code 104 — Technician Apprentice (Chemical): 3-year Diploma in Chemical / Petrochemical Engineering (12 months)
- Code 105 — Technician Apprentice (Mechanical): 3-year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (12 months)
- Code 106 — Technician Apprentice (Electrical): 3-year Diploma in Electrical / Electrical & Electronics (12 months)
- Code 107 — Technician Apprentice (Instrumentation): 3-year Diploma in Instrumentation or related (12 months)

A minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the qualifying exam is required (45% for SC/ST/PwBD). Only regular, full-time courses are accepted — distance or part-time courses are not allowed. PwBD reservation is horizontal on identified trade codes.
Who is NOT Eligible
You cannot apply if you hold a BE / B.Tech / MBA / CA / LLB / MCA degree, or have 1 year or more of post-qualification work experience, or completed your qualifying degree more than 5 years before the cut-off date.
Age Limit (as on 30/06/2026)
The age limit is 18 to 24 years for General / EWS candidates as on 30 June 2026. Your Matric (10th) certificate is accepted as age proof.
Age relaxation: SC/ST — 5 years, OBC-NCL — 3 years, PwBD — 10 years (with an extra 5 years for PwBD-SC/ST and 3 years for PwBD-OBC).
What is the Salary or Stipend for IOCL Apprentice 2026?
Many students ask how much they will earn during training. Since this is an apprenticeship, there is no regular salary — you receive a monthly stipend instead. IOCL does not announce a fixed rupee figure in the notification.

Stage 1: Merit List on Marks
Candidates are ranked in descending order of the percentage of marks scored in the qualifying exam for each trade and refinery. Preference is given to first-time apprentices (those not trained earlier under the Apprentices Act).
Stage 2: Tie-Breaking Rule
If two candidates have the same percentage, the older candidate (by age) is placed higher. If a tie still remains, the candidate with higher Matriculation marks is preferred.
Stage 3: Document Verification & Medical
Shortlisted candidates are called for Document Verification as per the tentative list, followed by a pre-engagement Medical Fitness check before the final offer of engagement.
