The Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) has released the Stenographer Recruitment Examination 2026 notification — 26 vacancies for Stenographer (Grade-III) across 12 items covering 11 departments of the Government of Nagaland. Know this before you read further: 100% of the vacancies are reserved for candidates belonging to any Naga Tribe, Kuki, Kachari, Garo or Mikir who are also Indigenous Inhabitants of the State of Nagaland. If you fit that condition, this is a solid chance among Nagaland government jobs.

The online application window opens at noon on 21 August 2026 and closes at noon on 3 September 2026. NPSC Stenographer Eligibility Criteria 2026: Who Can Apply?

Read this section very carefully. The most important condition comes first, because the fee is not refundable.

Domicile and tribe condition: 100% of the vacancies are reserved for candidates belonging to any Naga Tribe, Kuki, Kachari, Garo or Mikir, provided such persons are Indigenous Inhabitants of the State of Nagaland. If you do not meet this condition, you are not eligible, so please do not spend ₹300 on the fee.

Your Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate, and your SC, ST or Backward Tribe certificate wherever it applies, must be signed by a District Authority not below the rank of Additional Deputy Commissioner. A certificate signed by any lower authority will not be accepted.

Educational Qualification

RequirementWhat You Must Have
DegreeGraduation in any discipline from a recognised university — a good opening for graduates looking for government jobs
ComputerA 6-month Diploma in Computer Operation — compulsory, not optional
ShorthandA 1-year course in Shorthand with a speed of 80 words per minute
Proof of speedThe 80 w.p.m. speed must be printed on your mark sheet or course completion certificate
Result statusOnly those who already hold the qualification when applying; those awaiting a result cannot apply
Pass certificate not issuedIf your board or university has not issued the pass or provisional pass certificate, you must submit a letter to that effect from that board or university

Many candidates are rejected only because their certificate does not show the shorthand speed — check yours today. The notification gives no separate typing speed figure, so do not worry about that. If you enjoy shorthand and computer work, also explore other computer and IT government jobs.
