What is the Eligibility for PGIMER Nursing Officer Recruitment 2026?
Educational Qualification
There are two routes. You need to meet either Route A or Route B in full, and both routes need State Nursing Council registration.
| Route | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Route A (I) | B.Sc. (Hons) in Nursing, OR regular course in B.Sc. Nursing, OR Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing, from a recognised University or Institute |
| Route A (II) | Registered as a Nurse or Nurse and Mid-wife (RN or RN & RM) with a State Nursing Council |
| Route B (I) | Diploma in General Nursing and Mid-wifery (GNM) from a recognised Board or Council |
| Route B (II) | Registered as a Nurse or Nurse and Mid-wife with a State Nursing Council |
| Route B (III) | One year of experience in a hospital of minimum fifty beds, gained after the GNM diploma |
Registration with the State Nursing Council is part of the qualification itself under both routes, so do not apply on the hope of getting it later. If you are a GNM holder, experience from before your diploma does not count. The experience certificate must be dated on or before 3 October 2026, show the “from” and “to” period, your duties and pay scale, and carry a reference number and date from the competent authority. B.Sc. Nursing graduates can also browse our graduate government jobs list.
Degrees or diplomas earned through Open and Distance Learning are accepted only if they were recognised (UGC-approved) for the period when you earned them. All qualifications, age and experience are checked as on 3 October 2026, and this date stays the same even if a corrigendum comes out, unless the notice says otherwise.
Age Limit
The age limit is 18 to 35 years as on 3 October 2026. Your date of birth is taken only from your Matriculation or Secondary certificate.
| Category | Age Relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC / ST | 5 years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years |
| PwBD | 10 years |
| PwBD + SC / ST | 15 years |
| PwBD + OBC | 13 years |
| Central Govt. Civilian Employees (General), 3 years regular service | 5 years (Group B) |
| Central Govt. Civilian Employees (OBC), 3 years regular service | 8 years (5+3) |
| Central Govt. Civilian Employees (SC / ST), 3 years regular service | 10 years (5+5) |
| Permanent employees of PGIMER, Chandigarh | 10 years (maximum age at least 2 years less than retirement age for the post) |
| Ex-Servicemen (including ECOs/SSCOs) with at least 5 years continuous military service | 5 years, only if released on completion of assignment (or due within six months) and not by dismissal or discharge for misconduct or inefficiency, physical disability attributable to military service or invalidment; ECOs/SSCOs with an extended assignment need a Ministry of Defence certificate that they will be released within three months of the offer; a release certificate signed by the specified Defence authority, showing the period of service, must be produced |
🎂 Not sure if you meet the age criteria? Use our free Age Calculator for Government Exams to find your exact age on the cut-off date and instantly check your eligibility — including any age relaxation you qualify for. →
Be careful with three rules here. First, a reserved category candidate applying against an unreserved vacancy gets no age relaxation. Second, PwBD and Central Government employee relaxations are not added together; you get only the more beneficial one, and a PwBD candidate’s age after the prescribed relaxation shall not exceed 56 years on the crucial date. Third, age concession is not available to sons, daughters or dependents of Ex-Servicemen. Only PwBD candidates with at least 40% benchmark disability get the fee concession and age relaxation.
What is the Salary of PGIMER Nursing Officer 2026?
| Component | Amount |
|---|---|
| Pay Matrix | 7th CPC, Level-7 |
| Pay Scale | ₹44,900 – ₹1,42,400 per month |
| Starting Basic Pay | ₹44,900 |
The notification gives the pay level and scale. It does not list allowances, so we have not guessed an in-hand figure.
What is the Selection Process for PGIMER Nursing Officer 2026?
| Stage | Detail |
|---|---|
| 1. Computer Based Test (CBT) | All candidates who successfully submit the online form can appear |
| 2. Shortlisting | 3 candidates per post plus ties, category-wise, from those who clear the qualifying marks, plus reserved category candidates scoring above the UR cut-off |
| 3. Scrutiny of applications | Eligibility decided from your entries and uploaded documents; eligibility notice on the website |
| 4. Provisional result | Selected and waitlisted list based on CBT merit |
| 5. Document Verification | In person, with all original documents |
| 6. Final selection | On CBT merit, after documents are found in order |
| 7. Medical examination | For candidates likely to be appointed |
| CBT Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Questions | 100 objective MCQs |
| Marks | 100 (1 mark each) |
| Duration | 100 minutes |
| Language | English only |
| Negative Marking | 0.25 mark for each wrong answer |
| Qualifying Marks (General / EWS) | 40% |
| Qualifying Marks (SC / ST / OBC) | 35% |
| PwBD | As per own caste category |
| Reserved candidate applying for UR post | 40% |
For Group B Non-Gazetted posts, the Government has dispensed with the interview, so the notification says there will be no interview and selection is on CBT merit only. The syllabus follows your nursing qualification and may include topics you studied or practised during that course. Start with our syllabus and exam pattern section. Because of the negative marking, avoid blind guessing.
If there is a tie, the candidate with fewer wrong answers ranks higher, then the older candidate, then the higher 10+2 percentage, and finally the higher Matric percentage. Clearing the CBT alone gives no right to appointment. The Institute may call more qualified candidates from the merit list only once more if seats stay unfilled.
