What is the Eligibility for RSSB JEN Recruitment 2026?
Educational Qualification
Your qualification decides which post you can apply for. Read this carefully — degree and diploma posts are completely separate cadres with separate exams.
- Junior Engineer (Civil) — Degree: Degree in Civil Engineering from a university established by law in India or a recognised institution, or a qualification declared equivalent by the Government
- Junior Engineer (Civil) — Diploma: Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognised institution, or a Civil Engineering diploma recognised by the Institute of Engineers
- Junior Engineer (Mechanical/Electrical) — Diploma: Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from a recognised institution, or a diploma recognised by the Institute of Engineers
Every post additionally requires working knowledge of Hindi written in Devanagari script and knowledge of Rajasthani culture. Good news for students in their last year — final year candidates can apply, but you must obtain the required qualification by the date of the examination. Anyone acquiring it after the exam date will not be considered eligible. Candidates with a B.Tech or B.E. degree should note that the degree posts are entirely in the Civil branch — Mechanical and Electrical candidates are eligible only through the Diploma cadre.
Age Limit
Age is calculated as on 01 January 2027 — the 1st January following the last date of application.
| Criteria | Age |
|---|---|
| Minimum Age | 18 years |
| Maximum Age | Below 40 years |
| Extra Relaxation (all applicants) | 1 additional year |
🎂 Not sure if you meet the age criteria? Use our free Age Calculator for Government Exams to find your exact age on the cut-off date and instantly check your eligibility — including SC / ST / OBC / PwBD age relaxation. →
The Board has given one extra year of relaxation to every applicant in the maximum age limit, because age in the previous JEN Combined Direct Recruitment 2024 was reckoned on 01 January 2025 and no recruitment happened after that.
Category-wise relaxation is given below. Please remember these relaxations are non-cumulative — you can claim the benefit of only one provision, not several added together. The only exception is the PwBD relaxation, which is given in addition to your category relaxation.
| Category | Age Relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC, ST, OBC, MBC, EWS men of Rajasthan | 5 years |
| General category women | 5 years |
| SC, ST, OBC, MBC, EWS women of Rajasthan | 10 years |
| Persons with Benchmark Disability | 5 years (over and above category relaxation) |
| Ex-Servicemen | 15 years (maximum age capped at 50 years) |
| Widows and divorced women | No upper age limit (must be below the State retirement age) |
One important warning: candidates from outside Rajasthan claiming SC, ST, OBC, MBC or EWS status are treated as General category — no reservation, no fee concession and no age relaxation.
What is the Salary for RSSB Junior Engineer 2026?
The Junior Engineer post carries Pay Matrix Level 10 as fixed by the Rajasthan Government under the 7th Pay Commission. However, there is one important condition every candidate must understand before applying.
- Pay Level: Pay Matrix Level 10 (7th Pay Commission)
- Probation Period: 2 years from the date of appointment
- During Probation: only a fixed monthly remuneration at rates decided by the State Government
- After Probation: the minimum of the pay scale plus all allowances as per rules, and eligibility for confirmation
During the two-year probation period you will receive fixed remuneration only. Allowances such as House Rent Allowance, Dearness Allowance, Urban Compensatory Allowance and special pay are not payable during this period.
Once you are confirmed after probation, you become a regular Rajasthan Government employee with the full Level 10 pay scale, all allowances and pension benefits under the scheme applicable to newly appointed state employees.
What is the Selection Process and Exam Pattern for RSSB JEN 2026?
Selection is based on a single written examination — there is no interview and no skill test in this recruitment. The exam will be conducted as a Computer Based Test, Tablet Based Test or offline OMR-based test, tentatively in February 2027.
Written Examination Pattern
Three separate papers are held — JE Civil (Degree), JE Civil (Diploma) and JE Mechanical/Electrical (Diploma). The pattern is identical for all three.
| Section | Marks |
|---|---|
| Part A — General Knowledge of Rajasthan | 40 |
| Part B — Engineering (your branch) | 80 |
| Total | 120 |
The paper is 2 hours long with multiple-choice questions carrying equal marks. Part A covers Rajasthan’s history, art and culture, geography, and political and administrative system. Part B covers your engineering branch at degree or diploma level. Reviewing the detailed exam syllabus and pattern early will give you a real advantage over other candidates.
Marking Scheme and the Fifth Option Rule
- Minimum qualifying marks are 40 per cent — candidates scoring less will not be eligible for appointment
- One-third (1/3) mark is deducted from your score for every wrong answer
- Each question has five options — A, B, C, D and E; if you do not attempt a question you must darken option E
- Leaving any circle completely blank costs you 1/3 mark for up to 10 per cent of questions
- Darkening no circle at all in more than 10 per cent of questions will get you disqualified
- You are given 10 minutes of extra time beyond the prescribed duration for this purpose
After the Examination
Results are followed by normalisation if the exam is held in more than one stage or shift, then eligibility check and document verification by the respective departments. Finally, department allotment is done on Merit-Cum-Priority basis, followed by a medical fitness certificate, character certificate and police verification.
