What is the Eligibility for CSIR NBRI Project Posts 2026?
Educational Qualification
Subjects differ by area, so match your degree to the exact row. Most rows ask for a post graduate degree. The experience period is counted only after you got the minimum qualification for that post. If your university gives CGPA, SGPA or OGPA grades, convert them into a percentage using your own university’s formula.
| Area and Post | Essential Qualification | Desirable |
|---|---|---|
| Area-I, Senior-PAT | Master’s or Integrated Master’s in Natural, Agricultural, Pharmaceutical, Environmental, Plant or Life Sciences, or Biotechnology, plus 3 years’ experience in R&D in industrial or academic institutions or S&T organisations; or a Doctoral degree in these subjects | One year of experience in science communication or popularisation of science, or a Degree or Diploma in Mass Communication |
| Area-I, Project Associate-I | Master’s or Integrated Master’s in the same sciences, or a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology | One year of experience in science communication or popularisation of science, B.Ed. or Diploma in Mass Communication |
| Area-I, Project Assistant-II | B.Sc. or a 3-year Diploma in Engineering or Technology | None shown |
| Area-II, Senior-PAT | M.Sc. in Botany, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or Life Sciences, plus 3 years’ R&D experience; or a Ph.D. in one of these subjects | Experience in large data analysis, computational biology, genomics or bioinformatics |
| Area-III, YP-I / Project Associate-I | M.Sc. in Physics, Applied Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Botany, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Polymer Science, Materials Chemistry, or Nanoscience and Nanotechnology | Experience in fabrication and characterisation of nanoparticles, nanospheres, nanoliposomes, nanoexosomes and formulation development |

(Ag) in Genetics and Plant Breeding, Plant Breeding, Biotechnology, Plant Biotechnology or Agriculture Biotechnology | Experience in molecular marker development and its use in breeding of field crops; basic knowledge of bioinformatics and data analysis |
Tentative mark sheets, tentative certificates and “result awaited” will not be considered. Only candidates who strictly meet the criteria and hold the degree or mark sheet in the subjects named should turn up. If your final result is still pending, wait, because result-awaited candidates are not considered.
If you hold a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology, only the Area-I Project Associate-I post accepts it at that level. For the Senior-PAT posts, count your three years of experience carefully: it must come after you earned the Master’s degree, and it must be research and development work in an industrial or academic institution or an S&T organisation. A Ph.D. is the other route to the same post.

What is the Salary (Stipend) for CSIR NBRI Project Posts 2026?

| Project Associate-I, Area-I and Area-IV | ₹31,000 + HRA for those who qualified CSIR-UGC / ICAR / ICMR NET (including lectureship or assistant professorship), GATE, or a national-level exam by Central Government departments like DBT/DST or equivalent and/or agencies/institutions; ₹25,000 + HRA for others |

What is the Selection Process for CSIR NBRI Project Posts 2026?
Selection is through a walk-in interview by the Selection Committee. You can speak in Hindi or English. The institute says a screening test may be held if many candidates turn up, so keep your basics ready. Use our preparation strategy guide to revise your subject.
| Stage | Detail |
|---|---|
| Screening test (only if a large number turn up) | Multiple-choice objective questions, used to shortlist for interview |
| Walk-in interview | Selection Committee interviews candidates; may run late in the evening or into the next day |
| Panel | A panel of recommended candidates is formed on interview performance and used when a project needs staff |
Because a panel is formed, being recommended does not mean an immediate joining letter. Appointment is co-terminus with the project, subject to satisfactory progress and receipt of funds from CSIR. Total tenure of project staff in CSIR projects should not exceed 6 years, except as noted below.
Conditions That Can Cost You the Job
| Condition | What it means for you |

| Canvassing | Canvassing in any form or bringing political or other influence is treated as disqualification |
| Right to cancel | The Director can cancel or modify the vacancy, recruitment or selection process without notice or reason |
| Vacancy count | The number of positions may vary at the time of selection |
