CSIR NML Recruitment 2025: Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Junior Stenographer (Post Code: J 01): 10+2/XII or its equivalent and proficiency in stenography as per the prescribed norms fixed by DoPT from time to time.
- Junior Secretariat Assistant (G/F&A/S&P) (Post Code: A 01): 10+2/XII or its equivalent and proficiency in computer type speed and in using computer as per the prescribed norm fixed by DoPT from time to time.
Age Limit (as of 30.05.2025)
- Junior Stenographer: Not exceeding 27 years.
- Junior Secretariat Assistant (G/F&A/S&P): Not exceeding 28 years. The crucial date for determining age, qualifications, and experience will be the closing date for online applications (30.05.2025), unless specified otherwise.
Age Relaxation
- SC/ST: Relaxable up to 5 years for posts reserved for these categories.
- OBC (NCL): Relaxable up to 3 years for posts reserved for this category.
- CSIR Departmental Candidates (Permanent Employees): No age limit, provided they possess the prescribed qualifications.
- Widows, Divorced Women, and Women Judicially Separated (Not Remarried): Upper age limit relaxable up to 35 years (40 years for SC/ST members for reserved posts).
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): Age relaxation of 10 years (15 years for SC/ST and 13 years for OBC (NCL) for reserved posts). This is admissible irrespective of whether the post is reserved for PwBDs or not, provided the degree of disability is 40% or more.
- Ex-Servicemen: Relaxation of 3 years after deduction of military service rendered from the actual age as on the closing date. (Refer to the official notification for detailed conditions and formats for certificates for age relaxation claims.)

CSIR NML Junior Assistant & Stenographer Salary and Benefits
Pay Scale (as per 7th CPC)
- Junior Stenographer: Level-4 (Rs. 25,500 – 81,100). Approximate total emoluments: Rs. 46,800/- PM.
- Junior Secretariat Assistant (G/F&A/S&P): Level-2 (Rs. 19,900 – 63,200). Approximate total emoluments: Rs. 35,000/- PM. Total Emoluments include House Rent Allowance and Transport Allowance as admissible in a ‘Y’ class city, as per rules.
Other Benefits under Council Service
- New Pension Scheme: Governed by the “New Pension Scheme” based on defined contributions, as adopted by CSIR.
- Allowances: Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA) as admissible to Central Government employees and as applicable to CSIR.
- Accommodation: Eligible for entitled type accommodation as per CSIR Residence Allotment Rules-2022 (subject to availability), in which case HRA will not be admissible.

CSIR NML Selection Process 2025
The selection process will involve a Competitive Written Examination and a Proficiency Test (qualifying in nature).
Junior Stenographer (Post Code: J 01)
- Shortlisting: Candidates fulfilling qualifications and conditions will be shortlisted.
- Competitive Written Examination:
- Mode: OMR Based or Computer Based Objective Type Multiple Choice Examination.
- Medium: Questions in English and Hindi (except for English Language questions).
- Standard: 10+2 / XII.
- Total Questions: 200.
- Total Time: 2 hours (2 hours and 40 minutes for eligible scribes).
- Paper Structure:
- Part I: General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 Questions, 50 Marks)
- Part II: General Awareness (50 Questions, 50 Marks)
- Part III: English Language & Comprehension (100 Questions, 100 Marks)
- Negative Marking: 0.25 marks deducted for every wrong answer in all parts.
- Proficiency Test in Stenography:
- Dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi (as opted) at 80 w.p.m.
- Transcription Time: English – 50 minutes (70 mins for scribes), Hindi – 65 minutes (90 mins for scribes).
- This test is qualifying in nature.
- Merit List: Prepared based on performance in the Competitive Written Examination for candidates who qualify the proficiency test. (The sequence of the written exam and proficiency test will be notified on the CSIR-NML website.)
Junior Secretariat Assistant (G/F&A/S&P) (Post Code: A 01)
- Shortlisting: Candidates fulfilling qualifications and conditions will be shortlisted.
- Competitive Written Examination:
- Mode: OMR Based or Computer Based Objective Type Multiple Choice Examination.
- Medium: Questions in English and Hindi (except for English Language questions).
- Standard: 10+2 / XII.
- Structure: Two papers. Paper-II evaluated only if minimum threshold marks in Paper-I are secured. Paper-I is qualifying.
- Paper-I (90 Minutes): Mental Ability Test
- Subjects: General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, Problem Solving, Situational Judgement etc.
- Questions: 100
- Maximum Marks: 200 (2 marks per correct answer)
- Negative Marks: None.
- Paper-II (1 Hour):
- General Awareness (50 Questions, 150 Marks – 3 marks per correct answer)
- English Language (50 Questions, 150 Marks – 3 marks per correct answer)
- Negative Marking for Paper-II: One negative mark for every wrong answer.
- Paper-I (90 Minutes): Mental Ability Test
- Proficiency Test in Computer Typing:
- English Typing @35 w.p.m. OR Hindi Typing @30 w.p.m. (Time: 10 minutes).
- (35/30 w.p.m. correspond to 10500/9000 KDPH).
- This test is qualifying in nature.
- Merit List: Prepared based on marks in Paper-II for candidates who secure minimum marks in Paper-I and qualify the computer typing test. Candidates must exercise cadre preference (G, F&A, S&P) in the application form. (The sequence of the written exam and proficiency test will be notified on the CSIR-NML website.)

Eligible and interested candidates must apply ONLINE only through the CSIR-NML website.
- Visit Official Website: Go to the CSIR-NML website.
- Find Application Link: The link for ONLINE APPLICATION will be available from 06.05.2025 (11:00 AM) to 30.05.2025 (05:00 PM). The direct URL for the application portal is this.
- Registration: If applying for both post codes (Junior Stenographer and Junior Secretariat Assistant), submit separate applications and fees, but registration is required only once.
- Email ID: Ensure you have a valid and active personal email ID, which must be kept active throughout the recruitment process.
- Photograph & Signature: Scan and upload your latest passport-size color photograph (15 KB to 30 KB, without cap/goggles, ears visible) and signature (with black ink on plain white paper, 05 KB to 20 KB, not in block letters).
- Application Fee Payment: Pay the application fee online via SB Collect.
- Fill Application Form: Complete the online application with all necessary details. If your marks are in CGPA/SGPA/OGPA, convert them to percentages as per your institution’s formula.
- Upload Documents: Scan and attach the required documents as a single PDF file (not more than 4.5 MB). This includes:
