Eligibility Criteria — OPSC Assistant Public Prosecutor 2026

Educational Qualification

RequirementWhat you must have
DegreeBachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognised university
ExperienceAt least two years of experience as a practising advocate
Proof to uploadExperience certificate from the District & Sessions Judge in the prescribed format, plus your Bar Council of India or State Bar Council enrolment certificate. The printed format asks the Judge to certify a Bar Council, Odisha registration number and active practice in the Bar of that judgeship, so practice outside Odisha may not fit it
Odia languageYou must speak, read and write Odia, and must have passed either the Middle School standard Odia language test of the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, or Class X with Odia as a subject
Other conditionsCitizen of India, good character, sound physical and mental health. Government servants may apply but must inform their Head of Office in writing that they have applied, and produce a No Objection Certificate at document verification — obtain it well in advance
Marks entered in gradesIf your university awarded grades and not percentages, upload a university Conversion Certificate giving the equivalent percentage and the formula — failing which the application is rejected. Enter actual marks, excluding any Extra Optional or 4th Optional subject
Name changed since Class XIf your name on the LL.B., Bar enrolment or caste certificate differs from your High School Certificate, you must also upload the newspaper publication of the change and the Gazette notification of it
Absolute barsA married candidate must not have more than one spouse living, unless the State Government grants an exemption; and anyone currently debarred by OPSC, another State Public Service Commission or the UPSC from appearing at any examination or viva is ineligible for that period

Both the District Judge experience certificate and the Odia test evidence are hard bars — not having Odia pass evidence by the closing date is a listed ground of rejection, so get the District Judge certificate signed early.

Age Limit

Age is counted as on 1 January 2026. The base range is 21 to 42 years, which means you must have been born between 2 January 1984 and 1 January 2005.

Reservation and relaxation for SC, ST and SEBC are admissible to candidates of Odisha only, SC and ST by birth. If your caste certificate is from another State you get neither the reserved seat nor the community relaxation, and you compete as Unreserved. This restriction applies only to the community claim — the Women and Ex-Servicemen relaxations in the table below are not limited to Odisha.

CategoryAge Relaxation
GeneralNil
SEBC, SC, ST, Women, Ex-Servicemen5 years
Persons with Disability (40% or more)10 years
PwD belonging to SEBC, SC or ST15 years (cumulative)

🎂 Not sure if you meet the age criteria? Use our free Age Calculator for Government Exams to find your exact age on the cut-off date and instantly check your eligibility — including SEBC / SC / ST / PwD age relaxation. →

If you fall in more than one category, only the single most beneficial relaxation is granted — benefits are not stacked beyond the cumulative PwD rule above. The certificate rules below decide whether a claim survives.

Certificate RuleWhat It Means
Issue dateDegree, LL.B., Bar Council enrolment, the experience certificate, caste, Odia test, Sports, PwD and Ex-Servicemen release certificates must be issued on or before the date you submit the online form, not merely by the closing date
SEBC claimAn OBC certificate is not accepted in lieu of an SEBC certificate, and the SEBC certificate must be issued on or after 29 August 2023
Women claimantsThe caste certificate must read “daughter of”; one obtained by marriage reading “wife of” is not acceptable and is liable for rejection
Community once enteredCaste status entered in the form cannot be changed under any circumstances
Sports quotaSports Identity Card or Certificate from the Director of Sports, Odisha only — prizes and participation certificates are not accepted
Forged documents or unfair meansForged or manipulated documents get you debarred from OPSC examinations for a period the Commission fixes; unfair means in the Written Examination means permanent debarment from every OPSC examination, on top of criminal prosecution
Nothing is final until appointmentAdmission to every stage is provisional and can be withdrawn at any point; empanelment in the select list confers no right to appointment, and the advertisement does not bind the Government to appoint at all
Every Ex-Servicemen claimantMust upload the Release Certificate issued under the Odisha Ex-Servicemen Rules, 1985, plus an affidavit undertaking that he or she has not been appointed to any civil post after retirement from military service
Ex-Servicemen already in a regular State civil postAge relaxation yes, reservation no

Immediately after the Prelims, OPSC uploads a provisional answer key and invites objections online — if you do not challenge it within the stated window, you forfeit the right to raise the matter afterwards.

How to Apply Online for OPSC Assistant Public Prosecutor 2026?

Applications are accepted online only through the OPSC portal. Anything sent by post or email is rejected outright.

StepWhat to do
1Read the full advertisement, then register on the OPSC online application portal (link in Essential Links) to generate your Permanent Public Service Account Number (PPSAN)
2Fill the application form accurately with your marks from HSC to LL.B.
3Upload your recent passport-size photograph, full signature and left-hand thumb impression, all clearly visible
4Upload certificates: HSC for age, +2, Bachelor’s degree, LL.B., all marksheets, Bar Council enrolment, the Annexure-B practice certificate, Odia test pass certificate, caste or PwD certificate where applicable, and a proof of identity (Aadhaar, EPIC, driving licence, passport or PAN). Marksheets must show fail marks too, if any. Third Gender or Transgender candidates must also upload the Identity Certificate or Card issued by the Competent Authority
5Pay the ₹700 fee online where applicable, and enter your bank account number, IFSC code, account holder name and branch for the refund
6Submit, then print the finally submitted form and sign it under the declaration. If you clear the Mains you must carry it with the originals and one set of copies, each copy endorsed “Submitted by me and Certified as genuine and has not been cancelled” with your full signature and date — failing which the application is rejected
7Download the Admission Certificate from the OPSC website before the examination and carry it to the centre

A submitted form cannot be edited — to correct anything you must cancel it and apply afresh before the last date, though the community you entered can never be changed, so apply early rather than at the last hour. Keep four copies of the uploaded photograph for later stages, and arrange two character certificates in original, one of them signed by a government servant not below Group-B rank, for the document verification stage.

Two years in practice already gives you the hardest part of this eligibility — the rest is revision. Start with the three core criminal statutes in both their old and new forms, keep the Odia certificate ready, and get the District Judge experience certificate signed early, because that single document delays the most applications. Apply well before 28 September and keep checking GovtJobsAlert.in for more Odisha government job notifications.
