Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must ensure they meet the following eligibility criteria before applying:
- Nationality: Must be a citizen of India.
- Educational Qualification:
- Candidates must have passed 10+2 / XIIth standard or its equivalent from a recognized board.
- Typing Proficiency:
- Proficiency in computer typing speed is mandatory. Candidates should possess a typing speed of 35 words per minute (w.p.m.) in English OR 30 w.p.m. in Hindi on a computer. (35/30 w.p.m. corresponds to 10500/9000 Key Depressions Per Hour (KDPH) on an average of 5 key depressions for each word).
- Proficiency in using computers as per norms prescribed by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) from time to time is also required.
- Age Limit (as of 05.05.2025):
- Minimum Age: 18 years.
- Maximum Age: 28 years.
- Age Relaxation: Permissible beyond the upper age limit for reserved categories as per Government of India norms:
- SC/ST: 5 years.
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 years.
- PwBD (Unreserved): 10 years.

- Ex-Servicemen: 3 years after deduction of military service.

Salary & Benefits
Selected candidates for the Junior Secretariat Assistant post will receive a competitive salary package and benefits as per CSIR norms:
- Pay Scale: Level-2 of the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) Pay Matrix, which corresponds to a pay range of ₹19,900 – ₹63,200.
- Classification: Group C (Non-Gazetted).
- Allowances: Includes Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance (TA), etc., as applicable to Central Government employees and adopted by CSIR.

Selection Process of JSA in CSIR NCL
The selection process for the CSIR NCL JSA position involves multiple stages:
- Competitive Examination: This will consist of two papers conducted either in OMR-based or Computer Based Objective Type Multiple Choice format. The standard of the exam will be Class XII level. Questions (except for English Language) will be bilingual (English & Hindi). Total duration is 2 hours 30 minutes (3 hours 20 minutes for scribe-eligible candidates).
- Paper I: Mental Ability Test
- Subjects: General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, Problem Solving, Situational Judgment, etc..
- Number of Questions: 100.
- Maximum Marks: 200 (2 marks per correct answer).
- Duration: 90 Minutes.
- Negative Marking: None.
- Nature: Qualifying. Minimum threshold marks will be decided by the Selection Committee.
- Paper II: General Awareness & English Language
- General Awareness: 50 Questions, 150 Marks (3 marks per correct answer).
- English Language: 50 Questions, 150 Marks (3 marks per correct answer).
- Total Questions: 100.
- Total Marks: 300.
- Duration: 60 Minutes.
- Negative Marking: Yes, 1 negative mark for every wrong answer.
- Evaluation: Paper II will only be evaluated for candidates who clear the minimum threshold in Paper I.
- Paper I: Mental Ability Test
- Proficiency Test (Typing Test):
- Requirement: English Typing @ 35 wpm OR Hindi Typing @ 30 wpm.
- Duration: 10 Minutes (15 minutes for scribe-eligible candidates).
- Nature: Qualifying. Mistakes up to 5% (UR/EWS/OBC/SC/OH/VH) or 7% (ST/HH/ESM) are ignored.
- Exemption: PwBD candidates permanently unfit for typing may seek exemption by providing the required medical certificate.
- Merit List: The final merit list will be prepared based solely on the marks obtained in Paper II. Paper I and the Typing Test are qualifying in nature. Tie-breaking methodology will be applied if needed (based on fewer negative marks, older age, earlier acquisition of qualification, alphabetical order).
- Document Verification (DV): Candidates shortlisted will be called for DV, where they must produce original documents uploaded during application.
