What is the Eligibility for UPSSSC Scientific Assistant & Lab Assistant 2026? PET 2025, Degree and Age
PET 2025 — The Compulsory Gate
Only those candidates may apply who appeared in UPSSSC PET 2025 and have been issued a PET 2025 score card by the Commission. Shortlisting for the Main written examination is done on the merit of the PET 2025 normalized score, category-wise up to 15 times the advertised posts. Candidates with a zero or negative absolute or normalized PET score will not be shortlisted. Those whose PET 2025 result shows “Under Investigation” or “Provisional” may apply provisionally. You also log in to the portal using your PET 2025 registration number.
Educational Qualification
Both posts require a degree in one of four domains, as on 17 August 2026. The domains below are worded as printed for Scientific Assistant; for Lab Assistant the advertisement asks only for a B.Sc. with the relevant subject group (Biology group, Physics group or Chemistry group) rather than a specialisation, so that bar is slightly wider. If you are a science graduate exploring government jobs for degree holders, check your domain below.
- Biology domain: B.Sc. in Biology or Forensic Science with specialisation in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Cell Biology or Microbiology
- Physics domain: B.Sc. in Physics or Forensic Science with specialisation in Physics, Nuclear Science, Instrumentation or Electronics; or B.Tech in Instrumentation or Electrical & Electronic Engineering. For Scientific Assistant only, B.Tech in Civil and Mechanical Engineering is also accepted
- Chemistry domain: B.Sc. in Chemistry or Forensic Science with specialisation in Chemistry or Biochemistry
- Computer Science domain: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or an ‘A’ Level Diploma from NIELIT
On preferential qualification the two posts differ. For Scientific Assistant, an M.Sc. in the relevant subject or a higher Computer Science qualification counts, along with two years in the Territorial Army or an NCC ‘B’ certificate. For Lab Assistant, only the Territorial Army and NCC ‘B’ preferences apply. In both cases the preference works only when other things are equal.
Age Limit
| Detail | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Minimum age | 21 years |
| Maximum age | 40 years |
| Age reckoned as on | 1 July 2026 |
On relaxation, the advertisement states only that the upper age limit for SC, ST and other notified categories will be higher by as many years as the Government specifies — no fixed number of years is printed, so please check the prevailing UP Government orders. The one explicit figure given is 5 years for serving UP State Government employees. Candidates claiming more than one reserved category get only one relaxation, whichever is more beneficial, and candidates not domiciled in Uttar Pradesh get no reservation and are treated as Unreserved.

What is the Salary for UPSSSC Scientific Assistant and Lab Assistant 2026?
Both posts carry a regular 7th Pay Commission pay matrix level, printed clearly in the advertisement.
| Post Name | Pay Level | Pay Scale |
|---|---|---|
| Scientific Assistant | Level-6 | ₹35,400 – ₹1,12,400 |
| Lab Assistant | Level-4 | ₹25,500 – ₹81,100 |
A Scientific Assistant starts at a basic pay of ₹35,400 and a Lab Assistant at ₹25,500 — these are the pay-matrix minimum and maximum printed in the advertisement, which lists no separate allowance figures.
The advertisement does not print separate grade pay or allowance figures. Both posts are Group ‘C’ — selection runs under the UP Group ‘C’ Posts Direct Recruitment Rules, 2015 — and the vacancy table marks every row temporary; the advertisement does not elaborate further. Working in a Forensic Science Laboratory also gives you specialised, career-defining technical experience that very few government roles offer.
What is the Selection Process for UPSSSC Forensic Science Recruitment 2026?
There is no interview — it stands abolished for subordinate posts under the UP rules of 2017. Selection rests entirely on the written examination.
Stage 1: PET 2025 Shortlisting
Candidates are shortlisted for the Main Examination on PET 2025 normalized score merit, category-wise at 15 times the number of advertised posts, calculated to two decimal places. Everyone holding the normalized score at the final cut-off is included.
Stage 2: Main Written Examination (100 Marks)
One objective paper of 100 questions and 100 marks in 2 hours, with negative marking of one-fourth (25%) of the marks for each wrong answer.
| Subject | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Forensic Science | 25 | 25 |
| General Information about Uttar Pradesh | 20 | 20 |
| Computer & Information Technology | 15 | 15 |
| Physics | 10 | 10 |
| Chemistry | 10 | 10 |
| Biology | 10 | 10 |
| Mathematics | 10 | 10 |
Notice the weightage — Forensic Science alone carries 25 marks and UP General Knowledge carries 20, so these two sections decide your rank. The Computer and IT section covers IP addresses, email, MS Word and MS Excel, operating systems, e-Governance, digital financial tools, cyber security and future skills such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Machine Learning and the Internet of Things. Detailed topic-wise material is available on our syllabus and exam pattern page.
Stage 3: Document Scrutiny and Post Allotment
Shortlisted candidates go through record verification, where you must submit your post preference. The Commission then allots posts as far as possible according to your preference, considering availability, merit, educational qualification and the age limit of the post. If the exam is held in more than one shift, normalization of scores is applied.
