BIS Scientist B Eligibility Criteria 2025

Candidates must fulfill the following criteria to be eligible for the Scientist ‘B’ post:

  • Educational Qualification:
    • For Engineering Disciplines (Civil, Computer, Electrical, Electronics & Telecommunication, Environment): Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology or equivalent in the relevant discipline with at least 60% marks in aggregate (50% for SC/ST candidates).
    • For Chemistry: Master’s Degree in Natural Sciences (Chemistry discipline only) or equivalent with at least 60% marks in aggregate (50% for SC/ST candidates).
    • GATE Score: A valid GATE score from 2023, 2024, or 2025 in the corresponding paper code [Civil Engineering (CE), Computer Science & Information Technology (CS), Electrical Engineering (EE), Electronics & Communication Engineering (EC), Environmental Science & Engineering (ES, Chemistry (CY)] is mandatory for all disciplines.
    • All educational qualifications must be from a recognized University/Institution, and results must have been declared on or before the closing date of application (23.05.2025).

BIS Scientist B Selection Process 2025

The selection process involves two main stages:

  1. Shortlisting based on GATE Score: Candidates will be shortlisted for the Personal Interview based on their valid GATE scores (2023/2024/2025) in order of merit. Tie-breaking rules based on GATE percentile and age apply if needed.
  2. Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates will undergo Document Verification followed by a Personal Interview. The interview venue, date, and time will be communicated via email and the BIS website.
  3. Final Merit List: The final selection will be based on merit, determined by giving 85% weightage to the GATE score and 15% weightage to the marks obtained in the Personal Interview. Tie-breaking rules based on GATE score and age apply if needed.
