Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?

- Educational Qualification:
- JSA (General – Hindi): 10+2/XII standard or its equivalent AND proficiency in computer type speed of 30 wpm in HINDI (on computer, corresponds to 9000 KDPH).
- JSA (Finance & Accounts): 10+2/XII standard or its equivalent AND proficiency in computer type speed @ 35 wpm in English OR 30 wpm in Hindi (on computer, corresponds to 10500 KDPH/9000 KDPH).
- JSA (Stores & Purchase): 10+2/XII standard or its equivalent AND proficiency in computer type speed @ 35 wpm in English OR 30 wpm in Hindi (on computer, corresponds to 10500 KDPH/9000 KDPH).
- Junior Stenographer: 10+2/XII standard or its equivalent AND speed of 80 wpm in shorthand in English/Hindi (Dictation: 10 minutes, Transcription: 50 minutes English / 65 minutes Hindi).
- Age Limit (as on 19-05-2025):
- JSA (General – Hindi): Not more than 31 years (OBC).
- JSA (Finance & Accounts): Not more than 28 years (UR), Not more than 33 years (SC).
- JSA (Stores & Purchase): Not more than 28 years (EWS).
- Junior Stenographer: Not more than 27 years (UR), Not more than 30 years (OBC).
- Age Relaxation: Applicable as per Government of India rules for specific categories like Widows/Divorced Women (up to 35 years), Ex-servicemen, and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) (up to 10 years for specified disabilities). SC/ST/OBC candidates applying against UR posts are not eligible for age relaxation. No age limit for regular CSIR employees with prescribed qualifications.

Salary and Benefits
Selected candidates will receive attractive emoluments and benefits as per the 7th CPC and CSIR rules.
- Pay Scale:
- JSA (Gen/F&A/S&P): Level-2 (Initial Basic Pay Rs. 19,900/-).
- Junior Stenographer: Level-4 (Initial Basic Pay Rs. 25,500/-).
- Gross Emoluments (Approximate):
- JSA: Rs. 37,885/- per month.
- Junior Stenographer: Rs. 51,408/- per month.
- (Note: Gross emoluments include DA, HRA (if not availing staff quarters), TA, etc., applicable at Chennai).

Selection Process: How You’ll Be Chosen
The selection process involves multiple stages:
- Screening: Applications will be screened based on the fulfillment of eligibility criteria. Mere possession of minimum qualifications does not guarantee a call for the exam.
- Proficiency Test:
- For JSA: Qualifying test in computer typing speed (English @ 35 wpm OR Hindi @ 30 wpm, 10 minutes duration). Hindi typing will use In-script typing in Mangal Font.
- For Junior Stenographer: Qualifying test in Stenography (Dictation @ 80 wpm for 10 mins, Transcription: 50 mins English / 65 mins Hindi).
- Competitive Written Examination:
- For JSA: OMR/Computer Based Objective Type exam with two papers.
- Paper I: Mental Ability Test (100 questions, 200 marks, 90 mins, No negative marking).
- Paper II: General Awareness (50 questions) & English Language (50 questions) (Total 100 questions, 300 marks, 60 mins, Negative marking: 1 mark per wrong answer). Paper II evaluated only if minimum threshold marks are secured in Paper I. Final merit based on Paper II marks only.
- For Junior Stenographer: OMR/Computer Based Objective Type exam (single paper, 2 hours).
- Part I: General Intelligence & Reasoning (50 Q, 50 Marks).
- Part II: General Awareness (50 Q, 50 Marks).
- Part III: English Language & Comprehension (100 Q, 100 Marks).
- Negative marking: 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. Final merit based on written exam marks for candidates qualifying the Stenography test.
- For JSA: OMR/Computer Based Objective Type exam with two papers.
- Document Verification: Implied stage post-selection.
