Orthopaedics, Paediatrics and Pathology have no Unreserved seat. 4% of the total posts are reserved for Persons with Disability, and the notice gives no department-wise split for them. The number of vacancies is tentative and may increase or decrease without notice. If no suitable candidate is found in a reserved category, the seat can go to a General or another category candidate on ad-hoc basis, and the reverse is also allowed.

What does this mean for you? Radiology has the most seats (8), then Paediatrics (7) and Anaesthesia (6). If you are a General category doctor, the UR seats are in Medicine, Surgery, Anaesthesia, Radiology, Forensic Medicine, Eye, ENT and Microbiology. Do not pick a department only by its seat count. Pick the one that matches your PG subject, because the notice asks for the degree in the concerned specialty.

What is the Eligibility for SGMH Delhi Senior Resident 2026?

PointRequirement
DegreeMBBS plus PG Degree / Diploma / DNB in the concerned specialty, from a recognised university or institution
RegistrationDelhi Medical Council (DMC) registration with MBBS and the PG qualification, or proof that you have applied for DMC registration, shown at the walk-in
Not allowedCandidates who have already completed 3 years of Senior Residency on regular or ad-hoc basis in any recognised institution

The notice gives a few extra routes when no fresh candidates are available:

  • Non-PG doctors: in specialties with a perpetual shortage, such as Radiology, Anaesthesia and Forensic Medicine, or where no fresh candidates come, doctors with 2 years of experience in that specialty (non-PG) may also appear. They can be selected on ad-hoc basis only.
  • Already 3 years done: in the same shortage cases, those who have completed 3 years of Senior Residency may also appear. A separate merit list is made, the fresh candidates’ list is used first, and their appointment is for one year only, not renewable.

Do not worry if your DMC registration is still pending. The notice allows you to show proof that you have applied, but you must carry that proof on the day. Keep your internship completion certificate and attempt certificate ready too, since the form asks for the number of attempts in MBBS and PG.

If you hold a PG qualification, see more medical and healthcare government jobs and post graduate jobs on our site.
