Eligibility Criteria for Bihar CHO Recruitment

Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility criteria as of the cut-off date, April 1, 2025:

Educational Qualification:

Applicants must possess one of the following qualifications:

  • B.Sc. (Nursing) with a successfully completed six-month integrated curriculum of Certificate in Community Health (CCH) from an Indian Nursing Council (INC) or State Nursing Council recognized institute/university, from the academic year 2020 onwards.
  • OR Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) with a successfully completed six-month integrated curriculum of Certificate Course in Community Health (CCH) from an INC/State Nursing Council recognized institute/university, from the academic year 2020 onwards.
    • (Clarification: Academic year 2020 onwards means students who underwent 4th year B.Sc. Nursing or 2nd year Post B.Sc. Nursing in 2019-20 or later and passed).
  • OR B.Sc. (Nursing) / Post Basic B.Sc. (Nursing) / General Nurse and Midwifery (GNM) passed candidates who have completed the Certificate Course in Community Health (CCH) through IGNOU or other State Public Health/Medical Universities as per the MoHFW, GOI curriculum.

Nursing Council Registration:

  • The institute where the Nursing/GNM course was completed must be recognized by INC or the Health Department of any State/UT or Bihar Nurses Registration Council (BNRC) or any State Nursing Council.
  • Candidates must be registered with the Indian Nursing Council or any State Nursing Council at the time of application.
  • Candidates with integrated CCHN courses (from academic year 2020 onwards) must submit a specific certificate from their college Principal/Head (as per Annexure-1).
  • Permanent registration must be uploaded during application.
  • Candidates registered with other State Nursing Councils must submit an affidavit (on ₹100 non-judicial stamp paper) stating they will get BNRC registration within 90 days of joining. Joining will be provisional until BNRC registration is submitted. Failure to submit BNRC registration within 90 days may lead to termination.

Age Limit for Bihar CHO (as of 01.04.2025):

  • Minimum Age: 21 years.
  • Maximum Age:
    • UR/EWS (Male): 37 years.
    • BC/EBC (Male & Female): 40 years.
    • UR/EWS (Female): 40 years.
    • SC/ST (Male & Female): 42 years.
  • Age Relaxation:
    • Persons with Disabilities (PwD): 10 years.
    • Departmental Candidates (SHSB): 5 years (subject to eligibility).
    • Special provision exists for candidates affected by the previous age calculation date change (between 01.01.2022 and 01.04.2025).
    • Only one type of age relaxation can be availed.

Salary & Benefits (Honorarium) for Community Health Officer (CHO) in Bihar

Selected Community Health Officers (CHOs) will receive a total monthly honorarium of ₹40,000.

  • Fixed Pay: ₹32,000 per month.
  • Performance Linked Payment (PLP): Up to ₹8,000 per month, based on achieving various health indicators.

Note: As this is a contractual position, appointees will not be considered government employees and will not be entitled to government servant benefits or regularization claims.

Selection Process of CHO by SHSB

The selection process for the SHSB CHO position involves the following stages:

  1. Computer Based Test (CBT): Eligible candidates will be shortlisted based on their performance in the online CBT.
    • The test will have 80 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) for a total of 100 marks.
    • Duration: 2 hours.
    • Language: Hindi & English.
    • Syllabus: To be published on the SHSB website.
    • Marking Scheme:
      • General Knowledge: 20 questions x 1 mark each.
      • Knowledge Application/Reasoning: 20 questions x 1 mark each.
      • Numerical Ability: 20 questions x 1 mark each.
      • Technical (Nursing related): 20 questions x 2 marks each.
    • Minimum Qualifying Marks: 30% for all categories.
    • Normalization: May be applied if the exam is held in multiple shifts.
  2. Document Verification: Candidates qualifying the CBT will be called for document verification in a ratio of 1:2.5 based on merit and category-wise vacancies. Original documents supporting eligibility, reservation claims, etc., must be presented.
  3. Final Merit List: The final merit list will be prepared based on CBT scores and successful document verification, adhering to reservation rules. Tie-breaking rules (based on age, then educational qualification, then alphabetical order of name) will apply if candidates score equal marks.
