BPSC AE Eligibility Criteria 2025
Candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- Educational Qualification:
- A degree in Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering from any Indian University/Institute (AICTE Approved).
- Degrees obtained through regular mode from Deemed Universities recognized by UGC are valid. Degrees from distance education technical courses are not valid.
- Associate Membership of the Institution of Engineers (India) or passing Sections ‘A’ and ‘B’ of the Institution of Engineers (India) is also acceptable.
- Age Limit (as on 01.08.2024):
- Minimum Age: 21 years.
- Maximum Age: Varies based on department and category, with cutoff dates specified for different departments (refer to table in source ). Generally:
- Unreserved (Male): 37 years.
- BC/EBC (Male & Female) & Unreserved (Female): 40 years.
- SC/ST (Male & Female): 42 years.
- Age relaxation is applicable for government servants (5 years, subject to conditions), Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (10 years), Ex-Servicemen (3 years + service duration, up to 57 years), and candidates previously employed as Assistant Engineers on contract (equivalent to contract period). Contract experience calculation cutoff is 01.08.2024.

BPSC AE Selection Process 2025
The selection process involves a written examination and weightage for contractual work experience.
- Written Examination (Objective Type):
- The exam consists of six papers.
- Four papers are compulsory: General English, General Hindi, General Studies, and General Engineering Science.
- Two papers are optional, specific to the engineering discipline (Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical).
- General English and General Hindi are qualifying papers (minimum 30 marks each required). Marks from these papers are not added to the merit list, but qualification is mandatory.
- All papers are objective type, each carrying 100 marks and lasting one hour.
- Minimum qualifying marks in the written exam (excluding qualifying papers) are: General – 40%, BC – 36.5%, EBC – 34%, SC/ST/Women/PwD – 32%.
- Weightage for Experience:
- Candidates with contractual experience as Assistant Engineers in Bihar will receive weightage.
- Merit List:
- The final merit list will be prepared based on the sum of marks obtained in the written examination (weighted) and the weightage given for contractual experience.
- Written exam marks contribute 75% weightage (calculated as (Marks Obtained / Total Marks) * 75).
- Contractual experience contributes up to 25% weightage (5 marks per year of service, max 25 marks).
- In case of a tie in total marks, the written exam score determines rank. If written scores are also tied, age determines rank (older candidates ranked higher). If age is also the same, preference is given based on the alphabetical order of the name in Devanagari script.
- Document Verification: Candidates will be called for document verification based on the merit list. Original documents must be presented.
How to Apply for BPSC AE Recruitment 2025
Candidates must apply online through the official BPSC portal.
- One Time Registration (OTR): Visit the BPSC online application portal. Click on “New user Registration”. Complete the OTR process. This registration will be valid for future BPSC recruitments. A valid email ID and mobile number are mandatory. Candidates who previously registered on the old portal must re-register on the new portal. Ensure Name, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name, Gender, Aadhaar, and Date of Birth are entered correctly during OTR as they cannot be changed later.
- Login: Use your registered Mobile No./Email ID and password to log in at BPSC online application portal.
- Profile Creation: Complete the six steps of profile creation: Personal Information, Address Information, Other Information, Qualification Information, Experience Information, and Upload Photo/Signature & Profile Lock. Upload a live photo via webcam and scanned signatures (Hindi & English, max 20kb, specific dimensions). Lock the profile after verifying all details.
- Apply for Advertisement: After locking the profile, go to the “New Advertisement” tab. Find the relevant AE recruitment advertisement (29/2025, 30/2025, or 31/2025). Click “View,” then “Check Advertisement Criteria,” and proceed.
- Department Preference: Candidates applying for AE (Civil/Mechanical) must provide department preference in descending order. Preference is only valid for departments where the candidate meets the age criteria. Department allocation depends on merit and preference.
- Fee Payment: Click “Submit & Pay Fees” to complete the payment process. Payment must be made online.
- Application Printout: After successful submission and payment, go to the “My Account” tab. Download and print two copies of the final application form. Ensure the printed copy contains the Application Number, Application ID, and Bar Code on each page. Keep this printout and copies of all uploaded documents safe for future reference.
- No Hard Copy Submission: Do not send the hard copy of the application or any documents to the BPSC office.
